Obi Wan Kenobi: Was It Worth Bringing Back A Legend?

Obi Wan Kenobi is the latest entry into the Star Wars universe, set before the events of A New Hope, the show continues Old Ben Kenobi’s adventures after Revenge of The Sith.

Seeing Ewan McGregor return as Obi Wan is a sight for sore eyes, I was greatly expecting his performance to be amazing, and it was. Right from the get-go, this man has never forgotten how to act as the Jedi.

It’s interesting to see how Obi Wan has been doing since the tragic Order 66, and it’s weird seeing him in a “normal” setting.

Now I won’t spoil the series so far, with only two episodes it’s hard to spoil anything. We haven’t encountered any new locations, from what I could tell. Though most of the time I couldn’t see the screen as many scenes were set in pitch black.

I wasn’t expecting to see Order 66 once more in Star Wars media, but it feels fitting that it would happen in a series like this. Though the scene is quite short, you definitely feel its effects throughout the two episodes available.

The first episode comes across a little mundane compared to the second, it still has action and a lot of tension. But there just seems to be more happening in the second episode that is far more interesting than the first.

Deborah Chow is directing this project, she’s also worked on episodes of The Mandalorian. It will be interesting to see where the story goes, you get hints by the end of episode two, but not enough to outwit someone on Twitter.

John William’s Obi Wan Kenobi theme is great, but I can’t wait to hear Battle of the Heroes play once more when the time comes.

The villains for this series seem to be the Inquisitors and Lord Vader himself, so far, I’m not so certain how well the Inquisitors translates from Rebels to live-action. The Grand Inquisitor looks far too much like Squidward, and I will never be able to unsee it.

Perhaps they’ll get better as tensions rise and more desperate measures are in order, but for now they come across as whiny and incompetent.

Obi Wan Kenobi is setting up something big for later episodes, the only reason it has taken my interest so far is for the title character. It has yet to have the Mandalorian effect on me, but I hope it does. There isn’t much expectation from me at the moment, but I know once I see Anakin and Obi Wan together...then just maybe I’ll like the show a little more.
